this 800 # Is for Geek Squad. if my local Best Buy/Geek Squad calls, it's from a local #. had to have help the last cpl wks & they sent a survey to fill out but i haven't gotten around to it. maybe that's why they called? coincidentally, i Was at Best Buy picking up my allegedly repair sys.

Whoever it is, they must be using random dialing, because they called my brand-new Tracfone, which had never been used to contact any company.

It kind of went on and on,' he said. 'They gave me an email out of corporate from Florida with a list of fake company names. They wanted me to pick one. Most of them were very bad names. I picked the best one that I thought, and I picked the location, which was Atlanta.'He said the job paid good money and claimed some salespersons made several thousand dollars per week, often by telling businesses they qualified for federal contract, when they did not.'(They sold) companies that weren't a fit or didn't meet the criteria. If it's the Geek Squad why don't they have that or at least Best Buy for a caller ID. We might be more inclined to answer particularly if we've had them work on our computer recently. Repeated callbacks to this number over a 45 minute period got nothing but a busy signal.

This apparently isn't the Geek Squad. I just got a call (heavy accent) explaining that my computer had communicated a problem to them. I have a service agreement with Best Buy so I was thinking maybe this was legitimate, but cautious. So instead of letting him fix my computer remotely I told him I would bring it into the store. He then told me that this was not that kind of problem. I then used the word scam and he hung up on me. So I look up the number and see that it is for the geek squad. So thinking that this just may have been a legitimate call I called the number and lo and behold it is for the Geek Squad but when I spoke with a representative they confirmed that it was a scam and that their number had likely been spoofed.

I might be able to solve this on my own if not I'll give you a call back in about 20 minutes

Its highly doubtful that it was.. Scammers are known to use and abuse real company names. I doubt the Geek Squad would cold call you anymore then Microsoft itself would.Your computer does *not* communicate problems over the internet or send messages like the scammers claim. Got a call from this number recently. I don't shop at Best Buy, and I'd never use Geek Squad! I think it's the same tele-scammer that calls me at least once everyday (Monday - Friday), usually around the same time, but with a different number each day. I don't answer, and they never leave a message. My policy is that I don't answer the phone unless it's from someone I know. Plus, I won't hear the ringer anyway ... I have the normal ringtone set to a very silent ringtone. Only friends, family and contacts have regular ringtones, so I'll hear when they call and I'll answer the phone for them. Oh, and I have any unknown numbers set to 'automatic reject' so they won't even get a chance to ring my phone! I used to really hate these tele-scammers, but now I get a little satisfaction knowing I've wasted some of their time! Maybe if more people do like I do, the tele-scammers will only be wasting the time and resources of the telephone service providers, and then, maybe the service providers will take some action against them. One can hope....
