My mom got called from this number after she got a pop-up on her computer. She thought her computer was infected and called the number as directed by the scare-ware. She was greeted by an Indian sounding fellow who wanted to connect to her computer. He had her navigate to helpme.net (GoToAssist). After asking for her first and last name he then gave her a code to use to connect to her computer. She entered the code but did not hit connect. She called me. Please be careful with this number. There are multiple approaches these scammers will use. Most of the time why will start out all helpful. They will start to talk about how your computer has been hacked then pull up something stupid like event viewer. Event viewer just shows errors not hackers but there will be a bunch of red X's. These are not hackers but they will tell you they are. They can also pull up command prompt and type in something basic like 'tree' and a bunch off white letters will appear. Once again, these are not hackers. Please NOTE! If they start to become suspicious they might get angry and 'syskey' your computer. This will make it so you will not be able to log back into your computer. Or they might just send you a file that contains 'CryptoLocker'. Make sure you disconnect your computer from the internet right away BEFORE YOU HANGUP of they will definitely 'syskey' your device. Then demand money to let you back in. There is another number they called from so I will be copying this and pasting it in there too. I hope this helps. I work in IT and there is ways to get them back. We can use their tactics against them!
