I received a call today from a man with very broken English claiming to be from the Social Security Administration Verification Department, saying my social security number was under investigation because a car in a state I'd never been to was found with my information and 22 pounds of cocaine in it. He said I was being recorded and that he had to get preliminary information from me before a US Marshall visited me tomorrow, where I'd be issued a new SS number. He told me I had to answer questions truthfully, punishable by federal law, and kept telling me i needed to be honest. I caught on part way through and gave him unspecified answers, then he flirted with me, saying I sounded younger than I was. He did know a lot about me, places I've lived, etc. There was a bunch of background noise, like he was in a noisy call center or basement, for all I know.
