Showed up as Equifax but stated Bank of Oklahoma with a ref # Robo Call/Fraudulent

There was a message on an unmonitored line, saying it was Equifax trying to confirm employment and that it was due today. A reference # was given, but when I called back and entered the #, I was put on hold, then disconnected.

Message received from 'Mark' from 'The Work Number'....claims to be verifying employment, use reference number blah, blah, blah. Red flags from a shady business: -Mark never has a last name --No identification on who the represent -No accurate employee name. Sounds more like a debt collector phishing for information. We don't respond to shady messages.

Sent over a verification of income and an authorization from the employee signed over 4 yrs ago...? I'm not filling it out with out a current authorization.

Called for employment verification on an employee. Also asked for a valid fax number so they could send the request again. ?? If they want this kind of information shouldn't they call our payroll department? I'm in accounts payable, there is a difference.

Just had 866-662-3339 call my employment to (verify my date of hire & title) I am in the process of refinancing and this guy told me that their company is hired by the bank to verify this info. I told him bull crap, I just spoke to the bank this past friday who already verified my info.

I received a message from a woman asking for start date and title of one of our employees; I don't recall how she idenftified herself on the voice mail, but she did leave a reference number. I spoke to the employee, who gave me permission to give his employment start date and current title. When I called back, the company identified itself as The Work Number; the rep I spoke with already had the birth date and title of the employee, but merely needed the start date. I just called them back at the number left and asked who they were. The woman said they are a 3rd party verification company, a division of Equifax.

This company faxed my work a income verification request. I called the number and told them I don't know who they are and I was not giving them my income or any other information on me. The person I spoke with said, 'oh ok, I will go ahead and cancel the request.' Very shady if you ask me.

They said via robot recording that they wanted to verify someone's employment. Any legit employment verification calls are done by an actual person and not from a 1-800 number.

Caller is trying to verify employment for business. May be Debt Collector

The WORK NUMBER allegedly looking to verify employment information and leaving a 'reference number'. Caller appears to be phishing; very suspicious. As a legitimate employer I would never respond to this type of personal information request from a company with seemingly sketchy business practices.

Well, this was still bothering me, so I contacted Citi. The rep stated that The Work Number is a valid company, with admittedly poor business practices, that does verification work for several large companies.

Claimed to be Wells Fargo checking to verify employment. Left a reference number. Called the phone number but got a message saying that all their lines were busy. No ability to hold.

Received a fax from The Work Number, they had this tel number on it. I had gotten a verif request the day before from Citi, and already sent the info thru. I would call this suspicious.

A female person call asking for an employee verification from a debt collector company. But once we try to call back it was a different company 'Equifax'

Also left message to verify employment. Said they were calling from 'work number'. Sounds kind of weird to me. Said they wanted title and start date - haven't called them back, but I would think a mortgage would want a little more information than that.

My employee is in the process of purchasing a home and this company (Work Number) called to verify salary info.

caller left a message on our machine saying that they wanted to verify employment (start date/title) of an employee. If they need that info, they will have to call back. I do not respond to random messages requesting that type of info on our message machine from unknown sources.

Sent a work verification to my employer for a mortgage that was secured and closed over a year ago....kinda suspicious about the lag time. Named Mortgage holder has sold mortage to another company so the mortage company named isn't even the holder now. I will do more research and may not respond to this inquiry.

The WORK NUMBER, seriously? Would suggest a better scam name. No one in this organization will be responding to this type of 'verification' request, however, I am inclined to report this company to the States Attorney's office. Likely a debt collector trying to wrangle information they are not entitled to.

They left the following message: 'This is Angie from American Bank calling to verify employment of Nathaniel Schibly if you could please give us a call back at 866-662-3339. Please use reference #: blah blah blah....'
