Called using AmEx Merchant Account services background info and asked for verification of linked bank account, and last 4 digits of Social Security number. Had automated telephone tree with multiple options when I returned the call to call center. Used 2 numbers for incoming and outgoing. Seems to be a pretty serious hacker doing this full time. Beware.

Don't have a card and called back. It was a recording that gave me a number to some survey, I called again and the number was unavailable from my call area. Definetly a huge scam.

This is legit. Amex called, business call, our companies work together. Had an issue with a merchant.

Have received three calls, one per day for the last 3 days, around 8:30 pacific time. Have not picked up do to caller I.D. blocked, no message left each with each call. Have done some web searching and found the caller is listed as Alicia Erin Deleon located in Peoria, AZ. At this point based on previous comments she is a spammer. Suggest not answering and if so, give no information, and most definitely do not return call.

Apparently the female caller knew I tried to make a transaction using PayPal and American Express. She tried to bate me by giving her my number. I hung up and canceled my accounts. I made a purchase earlier at AMAZON so I'm guessing its an employee.

Recieved a missed call from 623 492 4206. I called back and it said I had reached a non-working American Express telephone number and I should call the American Express customer phone number at 1 800 528 4800. I had done my research before calling and knew that this was a scam. When you call in they ask you right away for your credit card account number to verify your information. People Please be aware and do not give any information to these scumbags! I called American Express and reported this to the fraud department.

Called, with a live person who wanted to ask about some charges to some of our company cards (I arranged a LOT of travel this week already). Passed it on to the controller, as he asked for her by name. No idea if it's fraudulent (I suggested to her to call the AmEx number on our cards) but FWIW, it's possible it's legit here and fraud by spoof as well. So, yes: always, ALWAYS ask to call them back using the number on the back of whatever bank card you have (if, indeed, you have one). If they're legit, they're generally not going to get pissy with you.

I work in the department that has to answer 623-492-4206. It is the phone number that shows up on your caller ID if someone uses one of the 2000 phones in the call center. The reason it comes back to security is so if there is an emergency the 911 operator can reach someone that will know what is going on. We receive many calls from cardmembers and non-cardmembers. We tell them that if they have an American Express Account to please call the number on the back of the card. Many that call do not have cards and we have no idea why they would be getting a call other than AMEX has millions of customers and mistakes are sometimes made. We always apologize for the mistake even though we are a contracted physical plant security company that has nothing to do with the business side of American Express but we are understanding people and don't like that people are bothered for no reason.

Scam; I submitted fraud on my Amex and then received this call asking for additional verifications and personal information. I called Amex and they said this was fraud and that they needed nothing.

American Express Collections and or Security Department. They don't ever leave a messaage.

Got a call from this number claiming to be from the AMEX fraud department asking for my daughter on my cell. Suspicious because it was to my cell and daughter has not lived at home for ten years. After telling caller that she did not live her got another call from the same number on my home phone. Again claimed to be from AMEX. Left a case number but no callback number.

I just received another call from this number Alex 800 394-7916 who left this phone number to call back, when I googled the number he called from (623) 492-4206 and I am happy I read these messages, when I answered he was asking for information about my company I asked him to verify the info he has when I said that he said he cannot do that for verification purposes.

I have had several calls from this number and it is exactly like the others who have commented. I have a company line and we do not have American Express accounts. What bugs me is it also states if you wish to bypass making a return call you an enter in your card number. I would not recommend that option!

Calling at least once a day for the past 2 weeks(623-492-4206). Claims to be American Express. This is a scam. Contacted American Express and there is no problem with the account. The scammers even provided me a number claiming it to be American Express(800-528-4800).

A woman called from this number to our corporate headquarters, being very rude to me. She was looking for a completely different company than us, but would not accept that.

SCAM!!! - Received a call from 623-492-4206 multiple times. Message was left by a female and also by a male.The callback number they stated was 623-492-3863.

It is a scam. 623-492-4206 is an old disconnected Amex number not used anymore. I don't have an account but called Amex anyway to confirm. Fraudsters are out for personal info and your money. Block or don't answer. I don't answer any calls anymore unless I recognize the number other wise they can leave a message.

I recently found fraud on my account occurring over the holidays. Someone was using my card to purchase items from 'Amazon.' Amazon had no record of the charges. I called AMEX and submitted a fraud claim. All of the charges were reversed. I have been in contact with AMEX by calling them directly and speaking to a Fraud specialist. Since then, I've been receiving calls from 623-492-4206, which I never answer. The individual calling indicates that I need to speak with her directly and to call 623-492-2583. Of course I know better, so I have been calling AMEX directly using the number on the card and asking if there is anything outstanding I need to do. There is not. Yet, these calls keep coming, indicating that I need to speak with this one specific individual regarding this fraud claim. AMEX says it is fraud and never accept the call, or speak to the person calling. I got another call today, in fact.

CallerID numbers can be spoofed so maybe it isn't them but a scammer. Always call the number on the back of the card.

This an Amex outbound number not fraud. They can't call from a specific number like the previous nimrod said. Just the call number on the back of your card if you're unsure.
