Yes, it DOES 'matter'. Stay OFF the phone and send them this letter VIA certified mail with return receipt requsted DEMANDING validation of this alleged debt. Per the FDCPA they have five days to respond:Today's Date Your NameYour Address Collector's NameCollector's Address VIA CERTIFIED MAILDear {insert name of collector or company}, I am writing in response to your (letter or phone call) dated {insert date}, (copy enclosed) because I do not believe I owe what you say I owe. This is the first I've heard from you, or any other company on this matter therefore, in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Section 809(b): Validating Debts: (b) If the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period described in subsection (a) that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, or that the consumer requests the name and address of the original creditor, the debt collector shall cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt or any copy of a judgment, or the name and address of the original creditor, and a copy of such verification or judgment, or name and address of the original creditor, is mailed to the consumer by the debt collector. I respectfully request that you provide me with the following information: (1) the amount of the debt; (2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed; (3) Provide a verification or copy of any judgment (if applicable); (4) Proof that you are licensed to collect debts in (insert name of your state) Be advised that I am fully aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. For instance, I know that: Because I have disputed this debt in writing within 30 days of receipt of your dunning notice, you must obtain verification of the debt or a copy of the judgment against me and mail these items to me at your expense. You cannot add interest or fees except those allowed by the original contract or state law. you do not have to respond to this dispute but if you do, any attempt to collect this debt without validating it, violates the FDCPA.Also be advised that I am keeping very accurate records of all correspondence from you and your company including recording all phone calls and I will not hesitate to report violations of the law to my State Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau. I have disputed this debt; therefore, until validated you know your information concerning this debt is inaccurate. Thus, if you have already reported this debt to any credit-reporting agency (CRA) or Credit Bureau (CB) then, you must immediately inform them of my dispute with this debt. Reporting information that you know to be inaccurate or failing to report information correctly violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act § 1681s-2. Should you pursue a judgment without validating this debt, I will inform the judge and request the case be dismissed based on your failure to comply with the FDCPA. Finally, if you do not own this debt, I demand that you immediately send a copy of this dispute letter to the original creditor so they are also aware of my dispute with this debt. I got a call from Mike at 'Coast Professional' yesterday. They used my maiden name and were looking for information on my mom. They wanted me to verify her phone number and address. I did neither but instead asked what this was about, how they got my name and how they got my unlisted phone number. The guy stammered something about 'I can't disclose that information, but I do have your name linked with this account and I have all of your relevant information here'. I smelled a rat and hung up. I think it's a scam but I do wonder who they bought (or stole) my information from. Obviously they had enough to link my mom to me and had my maiden name and my current supposedly unlisted phone number.

They tried reaching me the other day, marked as UNAVAILABLE, and now I know who they are.I will accept a letter from the creditor, but to hell with shoot-from-the-hip collection agencies like this. I AM paying my bills on time, every time. What especially annoys me is that they won't even post a company name. I can't give them acknowledgement as anything legitimate, much less as respectable professionals. So... I put these clowns on my home phone's BLOCK CALLER list Ta-dah!

'Coast Professional', they've called my house in the morning, afternoon & the late evenings (past 7:30pm). They claim my husband owes over $5K in student loans from 2009 but he never took out a loan last year. This 'Mike' tried to hassle me into telling him my husbands work information which is classified. Tried to ask me how much he brings in every month & when I wouldn't tell him, he gave me an attitude. If they're so 'professional', they wouldn't have such rude representitives. I'm not sure if I buy their crap so be careful with what information you give them & ask for them to mail you a letter. Apparently, they sent us 2 & they come in envelopes that don't have their address on the front for privacy reasons!! Just be careful.

I got a letter from them as well as a hang up phone call. These guys are idiots. In the body of the letter they are identified as 'Coast' but in the letterhead of the second page they are 'Cost'. This is what they are sending out as a company. If you're not smart enough to proof-read your company letterhead, you're never going to get past my 'Silent Ring-Straight to Voice-mail' ninja skills. I picture this guy as some hick that got talked out of his Katrina money with a get rich scheme. 'All you gotta do Jethro is keep callin these som'[***], som'body gunna pay and you can make a gazillion dollars more than you give me for these here magic numbers'. I don't owe the debt and better people than you have tried and failed. You'll get tired and sell the debt to some other poor guy who is more stupid than you. From my observations, it wont be to many more transactions like that before someone is to stupid to pick up the phone. I imagine a drooling flesh sack, sitting on a porch in the Ozarks on welfare day. Someone just walks by and throws a greasy notebook of numbers at it and takes it's food stamps as payment.

I've been getting lots of calls from this number, mostly during work hours so i don't pick up. Once, for curiosity, i picked up while coming home from work and they hung up. If what they have to say is so important, why don't they leave a voicemail message? I think they won't leave a message because they think I won't answer if they call again, and won't return their message. They're probably right. Can't be a collection agency, because I'm current on all my debt obligations.
