turning into harassment....all day phone calls

POSSIBLE PHISHING SCAM! The people I talked to were not a collection agency. Barkley Bank called about an AirTran Visa but wouldn't talk to my wife as her name was not on the account and gave her this number for me to call back. I called back and they asked a bunch of info to find 'my account' to determine what the nature of their original call was. It wasn't until I told them what number they'd been calling that they 'found' my information. They said the info I'd given them wasn't what they had on account and started asking for more info to try to 'figure out' why their information was wrong. At that point, I quit giving them info, but they'd already phished quite a bit by then. They assured me it was OK, there was a recording for security, and I could talk with their fraud department if I was concerned. I said all that was under their control and didn't give me any confidence. I asked that they remove my number from their account, and then promptly contacted my financial accounts and the credit bureau to flag a possible identity theft. I hope it was legit, but I suspect not.

Getting about one call/day for over 3 weeks now. At best they are a collection agency as per the post by 'Suspicious no more' in that they are calling same names without any idea of correct address. At worst, they are an outright scam---I'm not sure at the moment. If you want to light their rear ends on fire---ask to be put on their do-not-call list! This gets them agitated...On one occasion, I got them to tell me the DOB and last 4 of the SSN of my wife, whose account they were investigating. Neither matched my wife, suggesting they are either 1) stupid, in that they gave up their scam to me; or 2) inefficient, in that they will be calling everyone with my wife's name in the US!

This call appears to be coming from Chris Mountain with a company called ARS a collection company. They have been calling for Citibank. Citibank must be needing to payout some bonuses, so they are working hard to collect.

OK, after reading all these comments I feel better ....although is bad news, because it is a collection agency ..I thought it was scam, because they pushed for my house # and I gave it to them.I dont owe any $ to anyone but I'd like to know what is going on????Can any of you help me with these, I am in the middle of a divorce(3 years in the making) and maybe I dont know something that I should.They quickly asked me for my SS# when I called, I hope no one gives that info

A women left a message from Barclay Bank calling for a Lauren who had come to an agreement on her Mastercard. She wanted to talk to Lauren to discuss the arrangments so that they could continue. She left her name and extension number.The women they are calling for 'Lauren' happens to have the same last name as we do. We do not know any Lauren.I called back to get our phone number of the account. They would not give me the extension number left and said they could not find Lauren's account or my phone number in the system. The only way to resolve this situation is that the next time they call answer the phone and let them know that it is a wrong number. They also wanted to know if I knew Lauren and at first said they only way they could resolve this situation was to get more information from me. I only gave mey phone number.Be very careful - they are just calling possible people who might know this Lauren. I'm going to report them to the FTC.gov next.

The caller gives ph. no. 1-866-456-0695, x'n 84358 and says she 'represents Barclays Bank and is noting an unpaid balance with a US Airways Mastercard.....If their correspondence was sent, it was disregarded.... We have established no such CR account. Someone is scanning the advertisement lists to scam others..... How can they be pursued and shut down? // not too sweet

Calls our house all day, every day. Never leaves a message. Judging by the few comments on the web, this appears to be a newly acquired toll free number for a collection agency/junk debt buyer of some sort. With the economy as bad as it's been, these guys are coming out of the woodwork and are probably getting new toll free numbers all the time so people can't research them. Either way, never give your social or bank account info to a debt collector or junk debt buyer. Always send a written request for validation as well as a limited cease and desist letter giving them permission to contact you via mail ONLY. Get familiar with FDCPA and FCRA laws and know your rights. While we all need to accept responsibility for debts that we owe, far too many scams, con artists and otherwise unfair collectors are taking advantage by taking money that they aren't legally owed, not crediting accounts when payment is made and placing people that are trying to do the right thing farther into debt.

visit fdc.gov to view laws on collection companies and what they can and can not do. Don't be pushed around. All debt is old (except judgements) after 7 years of the DLA 'date last active'. Don't be fooled you must request 'validation of debt'. Make sure to ask for FULL accounting of the debt. If they say they already did it tell them to prove it!

This appears to be a clear phishing scam. Do not give them any of your personal info. If they want to verify, make them tell you what they have in their 'records'. These people have been calling us for weeks at all hours of the day and we have never had a card with Barclays or any Barclays affiliates--ever!

Full agreement here....Wouldn't it be advisable to just cease giving payments (to strangers) over the phone (and/or internet for that matter)? ....True bill collectors will gladly send verification w/ a statement. I don't see this advice to advocate self defense.

These guys are calling to my cel phone everday, I tried to reason with them, I tried to yell at them and they won't stop. Please help! I am really tired of these guys!

It was not legit, but nobody's stopping them from getting paid over the phone. When they made the same call to us, they used the same Bank name but said it was the 'US Airways Mastercard.' We did receive offers which we never wished to use or even activate. (They were cut into ribbons.) And now they close in on anyone vulnerable, i.e., naive and unthinking....

Getting many many calls and don't understand why!! When I did answer in beginning just was a recording saying 'wait for important message', waited & nothing happened! Now I have Caller ID so I just don't answer & getting approx 10-15 calls in 2-3 days time!!I answered one time today, forgetting to check Caller ID first (since I never had CID or need to screen calls before), this time a guy was there asking for my spouse.When I asked who it was he said is my spouse's bank, Barclays Bank, & I am not on it so refused to talk to me! Everything we have is joint!I handle all business & financial stuff, and we don't deal with that bank or know them...every check to anyone is from me and yet they still refused to talk about the matter to me (whatever it is). And yet if I gave my spouse would just tell them they must speak to me!I had to hang up on them after yelling at him.Looked-up phone# on internet and I learned they are a credit card bank & also a collection agency and are harrassing many many people. I then looked at all our credit cards since some recently changed info due to economy(not our doing)and then I noticed on back of card that one card is now thru Barclay Bank. I pay the 'entire balance' every month, never owe interest and actually pay early!We have A+ credit & always have, maintained a 769 credit rating @ 63 yrs old!!....Never not paid a bill owed to anyone so no reason to call us... So why call us 5 times a day and act so secretive about it!!??!...and 'both' of our names 'are' on the account!What has the world come to?

Numerous phone calls per day. as many as 20 or so. Getting to be an annoyance.
