Got a letter from 'Citibank' saying they couldn't process my request (which I never made) to open an account because 'we could not verify the accuracy of the credit information on your application.' Letter said to call 888-201-4523 in order to continue processing the application. Clearly a phishing scam.

New scam is to send a postal letter to call this number. Based on what was read here, these scammers are trying a different tactic. DON'T CALL BACK!

Was ask to give information like name, address, phone, 4 digit credit card number.

Called and said there was a problem opening my TB Bank account. Gave me a 15 digit reference number and a 4 digit security PIN and said to call them back. I checked here and called TD Bank to report it just in case.

Recording, asks for social security number when you dial. Don't even dial this number. Letter came to my house, definitely phishing scam.

Relatively convincing. Said it was a recorded line. The beep partially masked the 'Citi calll center' identification. Asked for a specific person in our household. Person was articulate and professional. They refused to talk to me. We called the number on the back of the Citi card and they said it wasn't them. Thats when I looked up this number.

A mailed letter looking official asks you to call this number as they don't have enough information to process your Citi Custom Cash Mastercarc account. When you call, the automated system immediately asks for you social security number or else the call says they can't do anything further. Scam Fraud Bull

My dad got a call from this number looking for me about an application that I completed; the phone number that they called is not listed anywhere on my current Citi account, nor has it ever been a listed phone number for me. Scam for sure.I called the actual Citi customer service phone number and the first thing they ask for is your card number, not your social security number.

This phone number is a SCAM - Can anyone get it through to CItibank that this is a SCAM??? I tried several times. Do not give anyone any information if they are calling from this number!!! Your information will only be sold on the black market.

I didn't receive a call but I received a letter in the mail stating that they were unable to complete my application for an account. I called 888 201 4523 and there is no way to get to an agent without entering your ssn or your credit card account number. This is obviously a scammer. Beware!

received a letter saying more info was needed to process the 2% cash back card I had applied for so called this number and was asked for soc sec and then was transferred but no one answered but just kept repeating they were busy to hold.This is upsetting to say the least as had gotten this application from Citibank and never did hear back from them! so is this someone from Citibank conducting this scam??

They called my cell number 2x about needing more information for an application I supposedly filled out. The left a long 'reference number' on the voicemail. I didn't call back. Days later I got a letter with the Citi logo and this number and the same reference number. When I called this number it asked immediately for my SSN. NOT

Legitimate Citi card processing phone number. Spoke with a live person who verified info on my application and was then able to approve my application for a card. Check out Citi yourself. You will be given this number as the credit card processing service center by Citi.

they told me there verifying info on the double cash rewards i applied for yestarday i never knew they were so quick about veryfying but got really suspicious after i rattled off the address very fast and they asked me to repeat it slowly ' they also wanted the last 4 of my social i asked for a number i can call to verify cutis calling and got this number which i thankfully was savvy enough to check here and find the truth' thanks so much

I got a call from someone claiming to be citibank asking for information over the phone. While I had recently applied for their 2% credit card, I did not trust this and was given a direct call in number.When I called this number I got a machine that immediately ask for my nine midget Social Security number. I don't know about you but this just isn't even going to happen.This really looks like a phishing operation to me.

Same scenario as others. Left a voice mail message regarding a credit card application. Left me a reference number and security code.

Received a letter about an account I would have tried to open at citibank. They asked to call them back at 888 201 4523, and after options, they asked to give my 9 ssn #, enough to consider this letter and number a fraud

Absolutely a scam!! Be very careful. Citi does not give a phone number to check the status of your application for a credit card. They provide you an application number and a link to their website so you can check status. Other than that it takes 7-10 days to hear back.

Keep calling me 3 times last 2 days. They were asking me if I applied for City Bank credit card. I already told them it wasn't me because I didn't apply for anything lately. They want me to provide full name and the last 4 SSN. I told them NO. They gave me this number 888-201-4523 to call back. I googled this number and found out they are scam like I thought.

Be careful, those f..thieves are as roaches, the best way to see its name is searching on USPhonebook to trace who is calling , with information provided such names, relatives, etc, you can report it to FTC

I received a LETTER in the mail that echoed that pretty much what everyone before me was saying. I called the number on the letter and it asked for my social. Of course I wouldn't provide anything like that. I called citi this morning from a number I found online and there is no record of me ever applying for a card. The letter is VERY convincing. In color, has disclaimers and legalese. Be careful of what comes in the mail, too!

I got the same letter. Very convincing but obviously a scam. 10/12/2021
