I received a letter from Wyndham Vacation Resorts that used this phone number to 'opt-out'. It clearly stated that they had checked my credit and I was approved...etc. A few weeks ago I was asked to attend a Wyndham presentation and I told them 'yes, only if I they will not do any credit check'. They stated that it was illegal for them to do a credit check without my authorization and that I would have to sign an authorization form only if I bought something. I attended the presentation and refused to sign any form. Now, they have checked my credit!Wish there was somewhere to file a complaint.

i did call this number and it is totally open for someone to steal your identity.... how???... you get a letter with you name and address in the mail offering credit.... the letter has a number to call to opt out of these mailings.... so you call the number... an automated voice asks you for your name and address, and repeats the name and address back to you.... next it asks for you to enter your ssn and date of birth... after i gave that info, i felt i had been scammed... but this number is legit for the opt out... if the letter looked official and contained a different number, you would be scammed....

We received the same letter in the mail as the person post dated May 24, 2011 above.The letter looked suspicious (no address of the company.) They even created a website link with our name at so and so .com. How can they create a website address with our name without our explicit written approval! Isn't this a crime? I want these types of mails and telephone calls to STOP and I do not want to provide my ssn or dob.I wrote a letter to California Attorney General yesterday and will wait for their response.

I wasn't sure either if this 'OPTOUT' number was legit, but if you look at the 'Personal Information Solutions' page of the Equifax.com site and the 'Contact Us' link at Transunion.com you will see the OPTOUT number on both sites. I sometimes did that(send return postage paid) too in the past(long time ago). I also thought those postage were ALREADY paid. So I felt I should not waste them.However, beware those printer and people may locate oversea. I often checked and found and heard them as foreigners (even thought the Tel# looked like US#).

What if I did give all the info? What should I do now?

I agree anyone that asks for your SS and date of birth are a scam it is not legal anymome

888-567-8688 requires you to swop your personal identity (date of birth and SSN) for listing your address on a do not contact list kept by credit rating companies. This is a steep price that could cause your identity to be sold or stolen.

Just a heads up, though they ask for your SSN to opt out, you do not have to give it. I hung up after it refused to move on when I said 'no' twice when asked for an SSN, but apparently if you wait long enough they will move on to your date of birth. I am *disgusted* with how little respect these people have for your information. I don't want these offers in the first place because if I am prescreened for a CC offer and can be approved in 30 seconds, then so can some random who stole my mail with my name, address, and special confirmation code printed all over the thing.

I do not supply any information to solicitors.Please remove these people from me.

Received a letter in the mail from TEXAS DPS CREDIT UNION offering lower interest rate on my current vehicle loan. I know it originated from my Capital One credit card (even though I requested no junk mailings or calls like this) because of the misspelled last name which I had to call and request a new card with correct spelling. It offered me this optout #, but in calling when it asked for my SS#, I hung up. Im already supposed to be opted out. Im going to do a little research on this credit union and then take it from there with them and my current credit card company mentioned above............ I have been in IDTheft protection business and no, I dont trust it. Have a Blessed day America and IN GOD WE TRUST!

The number was listed on a mailer and I was checking the authenticity of it. Actually it is a great thing for our country to be receiving the crap mail. Keeps printers busy and people employed. I get kinda disappointed when they don't have a return postage paid envelope included in the piece.. When I get those I send whoever is going to open it a happy face or happy thought for the day... (never get nasty)... it also keeps the post office folks employed. So.. getting these mailings can be good or bad... fun or not.. it's all what you make of it.. I would never opt out. I can waste their money just as good as anybody else.... :)))

A letter in the mail, addressed to me by name, from 'Program Headquarters (SPD)' saying that I'd purchased my car 21 months ago (off by a year) and that my warranty was expired. It is a complete load because my car, a still-practically-new Kia, is under manufacturer's warranty for ten years from purchase date.I'm a little more peeved than usual because they address me by my real name, not a generic 'customer' or some other bogus catchall term. Received a call from a supposedly mortgage company(703-398-1164) asking for my daughter. The caller said my daughter has inquired about a refinance on a home via on-line. My daughter DOES NOT OWN a home. I informed the caller this and I, also, told him I did not want to receive these calls again. Note: I had received over 20 calls on Tuesday, July 20th, from other supposedly mortgage companies inquiring about the same. And, I was quite upset about the calls. Those callers bombed my phone from 6:30 - 10:00 a.m. The person on the phone referred me to 888-567-8688, to request that my name be taken from their calling list.O.k. like a dummy I did and provided them with my information. Now I am up @*&@ without a paddle. I wish FCC or some government body do something to get these people off the phone lines and put in jail!!!!!!!!

I gave my name,address and phone number. When they asked for my social security number I repeatedly said I do not give that information out,I finally hung up on them. We are always told not to give that information to anyone. I divulge that info only to my bank.
