Calling regarding EDF smart meter, wanting to meet their installation quotas. No real benefit in smart meters to the householder, the main benefit is to the energy company and government - unless you think having a little display showing your energy usage is worth the risk of them messing up the installation or your house, remotely collecting and profiling your energy usage to charge you more at peak times, and selling your personal energy usage to monetise your data.

Female stated that she needed my meter reading as their agents are not visiting addresses due to Covid 19. I have only just submitted a reading via the app. She didn't seem to know if I needed to submit gas or electric which is odd since I have a key for electric. I'd say this is a likely scam and would urge others not to give out ID details and use the app if you can.

Taken from Ofgem website: Are smart meters mandatory? While we and the government think that all consumers will benefit from smart meters, They aren’t compulsory and you can choose not to have one. Choosing not to have a smart meter may mean you don’t have access to all the available tariffs on the market, Some of which could be cheaper. If you don’t want to have a smart meter now, You will still be able to have one installed for free at a later date.

The woman claimed to be from EDF and asked to speak to the account holder, When I told the woman the account holder was unavailable and to again say why they were calling, She told me to “fuck off and hung up. This is not the normal EDF contact number (an 0333 number), So obviously a third party. They need to vet their contractors to weed out the potty mouths.

Somebody from Tel 01914265602 called me at 11:11 hours this morning. When I answered nobody would respond to me. I find calls of this nature both intimidating and vexatious. The authorities should simply delete all numbers operating in this fashion in order to protect the public generally and in particular to protect those who are vulnerable, ageing and/or in poor health.

I rang the number back after reading the comments below & it is indeed a recorded message from EDF offering a smart meter. You get the option to press 1 if you don't want a smart meter & a different voice says you'll be removed from the lists but it may take up to 24hrs. Worth doing then - particularly as the government's driving these companies to push the take up of these meters that no-one seems to want!

I have call blocker so any number coming through should be an announced call. Only number that comes straight through on my landline is my dad so when phone rings with no announcement I assume it is dad. Very annoying - I joined EDF last week and since then I kept receiving phone calls which I ignored until I checked the number. Next time I got the call I said that I don't want the smart meter, And the lady on the other line was very persistent trying to change my mind. I am constantly getting calls from this number. Every time I answer there is no-one there/they hang up! Getting seriously annoyed with this now. Seeing the comments that it is EDF about a Smart Meter makes sense because I did answer a call about that a while ago now, But the call got cut off halfway through so I was expecting them to call me back at some point.
