SCAM

Left a voicemail about 'pre-qualified for the student loan assistance program' and that the 'forbearance is about to expire.' My student loan lender is changing so I initially thought this was legit, but the more times I listened to the voicemail the more it seemed suspicious.

As with all others on here Aug 4th this company seem to be making their rounds, Though this call came from a spoof number out of St Joseph Mo, 217 area code the return number was the same as all others here, 855-900-1110. Almost fell for it thinking my daughter still owed on her loans & has same last name. But a quick google search led me here..

Received this call which is likely a scam. Mine came from a Louisiana phone number. I have a New Orleans area code, so that is where most of my scam calls seem to come from, but I have not lived there since I was 13. It's generally a good give away.

Her name is Veronica now. Other than that, the script was the same

received call today 08/04/21 at about 12:20 PM from this, was already flagged as 'telemarketer' by AT&T, received VM that was word for word the same as quoted by Jess's comment yesterday 08/03/21.

Got the exact message as everyone else word for word. I do not qualify for student loan forgiveness. As others say, caller came up as a different number, (202) 985-0216 and was told to call back 855-900-1110. Phone actually only rang once too but I still got the voicemail.

Yep I got the exact same message as above. With the same call back number 855-900-1110. The caller ID says 689-210-0065 from Saint Cloud FL.I don't have any student loans.

I was actually able to connect with Chelsea.Of course, I was hesitant to speak with her- I suspected a scam was afoot!After a few minutes of talking, she admitted that she WAS trying to scam me, but promised to stop doing it and turn her life to the Word of God. God Bless this Country.

I had the exact same recording. My thinking was 'what the heck is a public student loan?' It also said it was a follow-up call. How can it be a follow-up if I have not contact them and if there has never been a previous call from them? It's a scam. They also didn't say my name. So that was another red flag.

Received the same recording from 'Chelsea' that other people reported. I do have student loans, but I don't qualify for any forgiveness programs. Just a scam.

This is a scam they are robo-calling anyone I had my student loans forgiven 3 years ago. So I really hope that no one falls for this. But if youre here you already have the right mindset of suspiciousness of anyone calling to give you free anything. Please report to FTC.

'Public student loans' are a legit term for federal student loans. You can find it on the legit US government student loan website.

I just got this very same call. Had to be a recording. Same script. I'm not a student, and have never had student loans.

Just like the other commenters, I received a VM (the number appeared to be coming from Agoura Hills, CA, but the call-back number was 855-586-9990) similar to the other reports below. I do have some private student loans but nothing that would qualify for this type of program. The caller sounded like a real person and much more convincing than typical scams, so I think it would be easy to get tricked by this if you had public loans or had filed for forbearance in the past.

Chelsea told me my student loans qualify for loan forgiveness. I do not have, now or in the past, any studen loans, so clearly this is a scam

Pretty sure it's a recording of a real person named 'Chelsea.' You can see the other comments that folks have made - they align with my experience as well.

Looks like they are trying this again this month. I just got this very call, word for word. I'm glad I looked it up. I was just bout to call it back as I do have a student loan. Thank you all who have already reported this. I would have been their next victim had I not looked it up. Verizon has it listed as spam. But it is most defiantly a scam.

Thanks for all who posted here. I got the same recorded message. 'Chelsea' does sound convincing and I almost called back, thinking it was regarding my kid who is in college who does have a loan, but who doesn't qualify for loan forgiveness. Glad I checked here first.

Based on the information from the other people, I belive it is a prerecorded message, since I didn't answer the message actually started halfway through the first sentence which an actual person would not do.
