Said they from fraud department. Just humoured him and ended call

We thought it was a fake on the basis of the messages on this board but called up the official VAT office number (look it up for yourself to be safe) and it turned out that we had some tax due to pay. It's an official number.

had a voicemail from these saying issue with VAT, called them and they were very cagey about what and why I owed VAT, then give me incorrect information about my account and what I owed etc, he then asked me to key in my payment details to 'clear my outstanding bill' (there is no outstanding bill) which I didn't when I asked if I could pay online he told me the account and sort code to pay into. Very dodgy. DO NOT PAY THEM.

Message left saying it was Mr Eyres from The Tax Department, sounds like a fake, called number and was given VAT helpline number, who hung up on me

Really don't know about this number some are saying it is the hmrc i believe it's fake as i have never received a call from them before. if they want to get in touch with me they can send a letter. i will not be responding to this number.

This number left message to ring HRMC BY Wed when called stated number has changed ring03002003830 haven't rang it as seemed suspicious

Received this number on an email yesterday claiming to be HMRC offering me delayed payment options on my VAT bill. I ignored it.

They are pretending to be HM-VAT DEPARTMENT

It is HMRC . 100% genuine, if you paid your vat on time, then you shouldn't receive a call from them

They left a message, woman with Scottish accent, giving me as a reference my vat number. They said I should call before a certain date and time and that it was urgent. I did try the number but there was no reply, I was suspicious so googled it and found this site. Glad I did.

Genuine HMRC number. Mine was in relation to VAT. Am guessing that Making Tax Digital has meant they are taking a more aggressive approach to contacting businesses.....
